KEEP BACKYARDS BEAR RESISTANT Bears that have easy access to our backyard attractants tend to stay around our neighborhoods looking for more, which leads to safety concerns. What Can You Do? Remove or secure backyard bear attractants such as garbage, bird feeders, pet food, compost piles and fruit. Store garbage indoors or in a certified bear-resistant container until the morning of pick-up. Make sure pet food is stored inside and clean up any other potential attractants (dirty BBQ grills, coolers) . Consider electric fencing around chicken coops and other livestock, orchards and any attractants that can't be moved inside. If you are using your garage to store items that bears might see as food, make sure the garage is locked and secure. Keeping our neighborhoods free of attractants is the key way to keep people and bears safe. MONTANA & PARKS Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Encourages you to be "Bear Aware" go to fwp.mt.gov for general bear information and tips. missoulabears.org for western Montana local bear updates and community organization info.
