ST. REGIS FLOOD RISK REDUCTION COMMUNITY WORKSHOP Identifying Risks & Opportunities Monday, March 04 6:00PM St. Regis Community Center 230 Lobo Loop St. Regis, MT 59866 WGM Group, Inc. (WGM), in partnership with the St. Regis Resort District, is organizing a series of community workshops focused on Flood Risk Reduction opportunities for the Town of St. Regis. Mineral County currently relies on one major levee, recognized by the National Levee Database, extending upstream 1,400 feet from the St. Regis River and Clark Fork River confluence, which protects approximately $10.5 million worth of property, 58 structures, and 80 people. Initially constructed with rip rap material in the 1930s and reinforced in the 1940s, the levee is listed as having a 70-year live space and considered a potential for failure within the context of 100-year flood events. Recent updates by DNRC to the floodplain and floodway maps for Mineral County (currently in draft form, to be published in 2024), indicate that much of the St. Regis community, including its commercial area, will fall within the floodway. This will result in increased insurance premiums and limit future development and upgrades to existing developments. The first of four community workshops will be held on March 4, 2024, to identify existing challenges and explore potential mitigation opportunities. The workshop is designed as an open forum for community members to contribute their insights, which will be incorporated into the upcoming Flood Risk Reduction Study. We invite you to participate as we work together to enhance the safety and resiliency of our community in the face of flood risks.
