PUBLIC NOTICE Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District Lolo National Forest GATES OPEN FOR FIREWOOD GATHERING The Plains/Thompson Falls Ranger District will open gated roads on June 1, 2021 for firewood gathering through the summer months. These roads will not be brushed or cleared by the Forest Service prior to opening for firewood gathering. The following roads will be open June 1, 2021 September 1, 2021: Sheep Gap Area 7587 (Eddy Connection road) 18277 (Sanders) 35081 (Spur off 7581) 16179 (Arvilla) 18257 (Arvilla-Bemish) 17350 (Shea) 17356 (Hoon) Crow Creek Area Rock Creek Area 18835 (Potlatch Turkey) 18761 (East Crow) 18839 (Corbie) 18838 (Jeckle) 5574 (Big Rock-Bassoo) 18338 (Purdey) 18361(Hipshot) **Some of the Sheep Gap Area Roads are located within the Burnt Beam Timber Sale & may have road work ongoing through June. 2021 Firewood Permits: Firewood permits are REQUIRED but will be provided to the public for free during the 2021 calendar year. These free permits will expire 12/31/2021. It is the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure knowledge of land ownership. A Forest Service firewood cutting permit only authorizes activity on National Forest System Lands. A maximum of 12 cords per year shall be authorized, and permit holders are still responsible for completing the product quantity removal record. Permit holders are responsible for adhering to all terms & conditions specified on the back of their firewood permit. To obtain a free firewood permit please call the Plains Ranger District at 406-826-3821.
