Sanders County Landowners A Blue Weed Task Force will be coming to Sanders County the week of June 17 to help manage Blueweed on private & county properties. What is Blueweed? How to control Blueweed Viper's bugloss: If you're dealing with small stands of blueweed, you can control them by hand pulling and digging young plants before they set seed. Wear long sleeves, pants and sturdy gloves as the hairy stems and foliage can cause severe skin irritation. They are a biennial that begins as a basal rosette which overwinters. Flowering occurs the next year between June and July. Blueweed reproduces by seed, keep them from spreading seed and you can control the weed. Large infestations of Blueweed generally require herbicide applications to control it. Prevention is key. Blueweed is a priority noxious weed in Montana and has infested over 9,000 acres of land and has been found in 11 counties in Montana.
